Trump Signs Budget Bill Including Blockchain

US President Donald Trump signed a $700 billion military spending bill, which includes blockchain cybersecurity research.

According to the published text, the study of blockchain technology should “evaluate the efforts made by foreign powers, extremist organizations and criminal networks to use such technology… (and) the use of such technologies by the Federal Government and major infrastructure networks.

Also, according to the text, the results of this research should be submitted to Congress after about six months. Although the research will be carried out by the Ministry of Defense, it is very likely that the information from different ministries and federal institutions will also be included as a result of the research. He thinks the research will contribute to the use of blockchain technology within the US.

Trey Hodgkins, senior vice president of the public sector at the Information Technology Industry Council in Washington, said in an interview last month:

“Among the technological capabilities that Congress asked institutions to explore, there was definitely blockchain.”
