An unknown investor or group of investors made a $1 million bet that the price of Bitcoin will reach $50,000 by the end of 2018.

The first US exchange to list Bitcoin derivatives, also reported by the Wall Street Journal LedgerX’s data shows that an unknown investor or group of investors paid $990 million in 2018 for the right to purchase 275 Bitcoins at a price of $50,000 each.

The bet was placed using a call option that allows the buyer to buy an asset at a certain price on or before a certain date, regardless of the current market price.
